Sipi Falls lies on Mount Elgon’s northwestern slopes along the Uganda–Kenya border. Local communities grow some of Africa’s finest organic coffee, becoming its first organic producers in 2002.
Named for the nearby waterfall, Sipi Falls Wet Mill in Kapchorwa processes cherry from 8,000 diversified organic farms on Elgon’s northern slopes. Ideal elevation, biodiversity, skilled farming, and mill management have sustained its leadership in affordable, high-quality certified coffee for over 20 years.
Many Elgon farmers still process small batches at home with borrowed pulpers, buckets or bags for fermentation, and tarps or low screens for drying.
Centralized processing pays farmers significantly more for cherry while eliminating household processing and storage labor, costs, and risks. The mill also recycles wastewater through filtered lagoons and maintains a large organic nursery for participating farmers.
Rich, floral, and mandarin-sweet, Sipi Falls coffees retain qualities once lost in transit.
